ERDF Operational Programme of Catalonia for the period 2014-2020

The ERDF Operational Programme of Catalonia 2014-2020, adopted by the European Commission on 13 February, 2015, is set out in Regulation (EU) 1303/2013 of the Parliament and of the Council and, especially, in the Agreement of Association of Spain 2014-2020, the strategic document that defines the investment priorities in Spain.

During the current programming period, the European Union cohesion policy prioritises the developed and leading regions which, like Catalonia, must lead and drive the recovery of the European economy. In this regard, the ERDF resources will be allocated, for the most part, to sectors of activity with high added value and with a strong capability to attract other investments, so it is expected that they will involve a multiplier effect on the Catalan economy.

However, as a consequence of the health crisis caused by COVID, in 2020 the European Union allocated additional resources to the ERDF OP 2014-2020, through the REACT EU tool and the following thematic objective:

Thematic Objective 20 (OT20): Foster crisis repair in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and its social consequences and prepare for a green, digital and resilient recovery of the economy.

As a developed region, Catalonia receives ERDF funding of 50% of the funded expenditure of the approved projects, except in the case of the actions in the framework of OT20, which receive 100% funding through the additional funds of REACT EU.
