The scheme envisages the design, development, supply, installation, commissioning and technical support of a technological system which, once approved and when it is fully operational, will be integrated into the T- mobilitat project and will enable public transport users to pay by bank card within the scope of the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità de l'àrea de Barcelona - Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Authority.
Furthermore, it will allow the functional and technological operation, as well as the future evolution of the system.

The expected benefits are the following:

• Increased health protection for public transport users and workers.
• Increase in the economic efficiency of transport.
• Reduction of fraud associated with the manual sales process.
• Increase in the commercial speed of public transport operations by road.
• Improvement of services and user experience.
• Enhancement of the modern image of public transport in Catalonia.

The purpose of the scheme is to develop new pricing systems based on closed validation at the exit (Check-in – Check-out); support and improve the existing ones and others based on account, distance or other parameters to be developed. To implement these solutions, validation systems are required at least in those means of transport that operate in more than one pricing zone.

Thus, it is planned to include the installation, commissioning, maintenance and data communication service of the exit validators for the buses of the Bus Embarcat transport operators (intercity buses) following the requirements established by the work framework of the T-mobilitat project.

The aim of this project is for T-mobilitat's Transport Management and Information Centre to have 100% of Catalonia's public transport information, both theoretical and in real time, specifically in relation to public transport travellers by road.

This information originates within the buses and transport companies themselves, and largely through the SAEi. This system already exists in the catchment area of the Barcelona ATM but it is currently insufficient as it is not able to respond to the current information needs of users.

Therefore, the aim is for 100% digitisation of the service provision, that is to say, that the concession holder operators of the service improve both the information offered to travellers and the obtaining of data for subsequent analysis and improvement of the service. This digitisation will have a direct impact on the public transport user by road, in different aspects:

• Information available to users.
• Before the journey, via the website, apps or information panels at the stops: theoretical information, real-time estimates, occupancy estimates, incident handling.
• During the journey, with internal screens and audio systems: information on the next stops of the line, the times to get there and connections with other lines, both of the same means of transport and others.
• Wi-Fi service: possibility of offering a Wi-Fi network to users for internet browsing or application use.
• Improved punctuality.
• Improvement of service frequency.
• Improvement of the use of vehicles.
