• TMB is replacing 6 kilometres of track on the central section of the L4 between Bogatell and Verdaguer in a project representing an investment of more than €16 million that will be carried out from 26 June to 25 August
   
• Tram connection works will affect the whole T4 line from 26 June to 31 August. During that period, the T5 and T6 lines will terminate at Farinera to ensure connection to the L1 Metro line

Monday 26 June sees the commencement of the two sets of engineering works affecting public transport in Barcelona this summer, as previously announced. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is completely replacing 6 kilometres of track on the central section of the L4 Metro line between Bogatell and Verdaguer to ensure that it can provide the travelling public with a Metro service of the highest quality and efficiency. The works will be carried out from 26 June to 25 August.

Construction works will also be carried out on the new tracks and tram stop at Glòries, as part of the tram connection works. Those works will affect the T4 TRAM line which will be completely out of service. These works will take place from 26 June to 31 August.

Renewal of the L4 Metro line

TMB is renovating 6 kilometres of track on the central section of the L4 Metro line between Bogatell and Verdaguer to provide the travelling public a high-quality, efficient service. This essential upgrade will make the line more reliable, reduce service interruptions, make journeys more comfortable as well as reducing vibration from the use of the Metro. The works represent a total investment of €16.4 million and will be carried out in two phases from 26 June to 25 August. During Phase One there will be no service between Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Girona from 26 June to 31 July. Phase Two begins on 1 August and will last until 28 August. There will be no service between Jaume I and Girona.

In total, six kilometres of track will be replaced with 12 kilometres of new steel rails installed; there will be 475 electric welds and about 375 aluminothermic welds; and 18,600 anti-vibration fasteners will be installed on a platform made with 14,000 cubic metres of concrete.

Alternative transport during reduced Metro service

Other Metro lines are the most efficient travel alternatives. A number of lines provide ways of travelling round the closed section. TMB will increase service on the other Metro lines over the normal June service with more frequent trains. On L4 trains will run approximately every 5 minutes, the greatest frequency allowed by the works. The best line to get to the beaches is L2.

Shuttle buses will run over the affected route during both phases every 3-4 minutes. The maximum number of buses that traffic conditions allow will be running. The special bus service will be run while the Metro’s is open.
Regular bus services in the area will have more buses: 6, V19 and V21, and AMB's regular B20 and B25 between Poblenou and Urquinaona. TMB will provide a special bus service for people with reduced mobility between Verdaguer and Joanic.

Effect on the T4 tram line due to engineering works

Works on L4 will take place at the same time as planned works on the T4 tram line. Ongoing works during Phase One of the tram connection works, from Glòries to Verdaguer, require new tracks to be connected with the existing track at Glòries. There will be no service on tram line T4 from 26 June to 31 August.

Alternatives during suspension of TRAM service

Alternative provision has been planned as follows:

- Shuttle bus service between Glòries and Sant Adrià Station, 9 stops (Ca l’Aranyó, Pere IV, Fluvià, Selva de Mar, El Maresme, Fòrum, Campus Diagonal - Besòs, Port Fòrum, Sant Adrià Station) on the same timetable as the tram service.
- Metro L1 and line V21 between Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Glòries.
- Information on alternatives:

• Metro L1 (Glòries, Marina, Clot), Metro L2 (Clot - La Pau), Metro L4 (La Pau, Besòs, El Maresme, Selva de Mar)
• R1 suburban train (Sant Adrià - El Clot)
• Bus line 7 (Diagonal), H14 (Sant Adrià - Pere IV – Meridiana), H16 (Forum – Ciutadella), V21 (Marina)

Lines T5 and T6 will terminate at Farinera for connection with Metro L1.

Public information

The ATM has a publicity campaign for the affected parts of the public transport network in mass media, mainly digital and radio, and social media to publicise the effects on Metro services and the tram network and encourage travellers to check the operators' published information concerning their Alternative Transport Plans to address the interruptions to normal scheduled services. The campaign will run 2 June-31 August.

En paral·lel, i per reforçar la comunicació a la ciutadania, sobre el tall de metro de l’L4, el passat 12 de juny TMB va iniciar el desplegament d'informadors a les estacions afectades pels talls i als finals de línia. Més endavant aquests informadors també es situaran a les parades d’inici i final del servei de bus llançadora. Pel que fa als canals digitals, el planificador de viatge Vull Anar permet des del 12 de juny tenir la informació del tall a la plataforma i, en aquesta mateixa data, s’ha iniciat una campanya informativa en megafonia, pantalles d'informació, la web i les xarxes socials de TMB.

En el cas del tall de la T4, des del 21 de juny s’han desplegat informadors a les estacions afectades. Durant el tall se n’afegiran més a les principals parades i la parada de La Farinera, inici i fi de les línies T5 i T6. A banda de disposar d’elements d’informació en parades anul·lades, parades de bus substitutoris i tramvies, també s’informarà per megafonia i canals digitals de TRAM
