Public transport expands its services during the 2022 La Mercè festivities

The public transport network in the Barcelona area is to expand its services for the 2022 La Mercè festivities, which will be taking place from Friday 23rd to Sunday 26th September. To cope with increased demand during the festivities, the operators TMB, FGC, TRAM, Rodalies de Catalunya and NitBus, the AMB metropolitan night bus service, will be expanding their services.

ATM, the metropolitan transport authority, recommends using public transport as the best option to move about the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area during La Mercè festivities.

It should be remembered that under no circumstances are the facilities of the public transport network a places for parties and celebrations, and that proper use of face masks on vehicles is obligatory.

TMB
The metro will run right through the nights of Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th. Thus, trains will run from 5 in the morning on Friday 23rd September to 12 midnight on Monday 26th. It is also planned to run more frequent services at certain times.

FGC
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) will run more services on lines L6, L7, L8 and L12, running through the nights of 23rd, 24th and 25th September, with trains every 20 minutes. Furthermore, on the night of Monday 26th September, coinciding with La Mercè fireworks display, two extra services will be added on line L8, departing from P. Espanya station at 10.55pm and 11.07pm.

TRAM
TRAM will run through the night on lines T2, T3, T4 and T5, from 5 o'clock in the morning of Friday 23rd through to 12 midnight on Monday 26th September. Between 2 and 5 o'clock in the morning, services on line T4 will be every 20 minutes, and every 30 minutes on line T5, Trambesòs. On Trambaix, services will be every 15 minutes on the main line. Lines T1 and T6 will run services to their usual timetable.

Rodalies de Catalunya

On Monday 26th public holiday services will be run on Barcelona local lines.
Regional services will run according to their normal timetable for working days, though the usual capacity of trains will be increased to aid mobility for the public.

Nitbus
NitBus, the metropolitan night bus service, which serves Barcelona and 17 other municipalities in the metropolitan area, is to increase the number of vehicles to avoid crowding in some places and at night, and to meet basic transport needs.

Operators plan to reinforce staff on trains and stations to cope with the large number of passengers travelling on public transport, especially in beach districts and in the city centre, to celebrate the festivities. It will also reinforce cleaning, maintenance and security at the busiest stations.
