The integrated passes set to make the definitive format change include T-usual, T-casual, T-grup and T-familiar, after T-jove did so in March

  • Vending machines will no longer print these magnetic strip cardboard passes and will only offer them in contactless T-mobilitat format, but also in a new refillable cardboard format that does not require prior registration, and which, in this case, offers fewer benefits than the plastic card or the mobile phone

  • Users who want to travel with a personalised plastic card or with their mobile phone must register and buy the card or download the app to enjoy all the advantages of digital self-management and recover their journeys in the event of loss or theft. T-usual, T-casual, T-grup and T-familiar have been available in these T-mobilitat formats for many months

  • Close to half of the trips made every day on public transport in the Barcelona area are made with T-mobilitat, which means one and a half million validations each day

Barcelona, 20 November - From 28 November 2023, the T-usual, T-casual, T-group and T-familiar integrated passes will gradually cease to be sold in cardboard format with a magnetic strip and will only be available with T-mobilitat. The main change will occur gradually in the vending machines, which will stop printing the old magnetic stripe tickets and will only offer them with T-mobilitat cards, which are rechargeable and use contactless technology. As announced on 14 September last, these passes will be available at the machines in a specific T-mobilitat cardboard format which will not require prior registration by users and which will cost €0.50 (only on the first purchase, then they can be topped up as many times as you like).

As an exception, the T-usual ticket in T-mobilitat cardboard format will have a specific design which will require the national ID card (DNI) or passport at the time of purchase as it is a personal and non-transferable pass. In this regard, the T-usual card will not accept a top-up from any other type of pass from the range of integrated passes

For the rest of the passes that are now making the final switch to T-mobilitat (T-casual, T-grup and T-familiar) the top-up of different passes will be allowed, but only one at a time; that is to say, once one runs out, a different pass can be topped up if the person so wishes due to a change in their needs.

On the other hand, the old cardboard passes with a magnetic strip that have already been acquired can continue to be used until no trips are left on them or until they expire on 15 January 2024, since validating machines will still accept this type of ticket until then.

The other passes in the system (single ticket, AMB social passes such as T-4, own passes issued by operators etc.) will continue to be issued on magnetic strip cardboard at vending machines, as has occurred until now.

Gradual change to network machines

The process of changing ticket types will start on 28 November but will be progressive. In other words, not all vending machines will issue the new T-mobilitat cardboard cards from the first day. The number of metro, Rodalies, FGC and TRAM machines with the new types of passes will be increased each day, until the transition is complete, in mid-December.

The change will come to official points of sale, such as tobacconists or kiosks, at a later date.

T-mobilitat: a system in different formats

From 28 November, four contactless and rechargeable T-mobilitat cards can be purchased, each of which will accept certain integrated passes:

Different functionalities depending on the type of card

Both the personalised plastic card and the mobile phone card will offer some benefits with respect to the cardboard formats, such as the possibility of recovering journeys in the event of loss or theft, in addition to other online operations.

Users wishing to travel with a personalised plastic card are advised to sign up digitally via one of the three available platforms:  T-mobilitat, TMB and FGC, ; once requested, it will be received at the indicated address within a period of 5 to 10 days. In the event of opting for validation with an Android mobile phone with NFC, the pass will become immediately available via the T-mobilitat, TMB App and FGC T-mobilitat.

Information campaign from September 15

The campaign under the slogan 'Aviat, només amb la T-mobilitat' (Soon, only with T-mobilitat), launched by Barcelona ATM on 15 September, warned in advance of the imminent changes in the way of travelling due to the need to acquire new habits in the method of buying and validating.

The campaign, which now has a start date (28 November), will be active on all the digital channels and social networks of the different public transport operator companies. In addition, to accompany the change, a team of informants will be on hand, distributed around the different stations on the network, in order to resolve any doubts and help people to complete the online registration procedure.

Here are some examples that will illustrate part of the graphic campaign and influence the change in habits that users will have to acquire.

T-mobilitat exceeds a million and a half journeys a day

T-mobilitat records a total of over a million and a half journeys a day, and it is estimated that the system now accounts for around 50% of all Barcelona ATM validations.

Since March, the T-jove has only been available in T-mobilitat format, which means that close to 100% of its users now travel with the new validation system.

As for the million T-mobilitat cards issued so far, more than 70% are in physical format and the remaining 30% are in their mobile version.

At present, practically the entire range of integrated passes of the Barcelona ATM can be used with the new contactless system. All that remains is the integration of the T-usual for the unemployed, the T-verda and the T-dia, which will join them in the coming months.
