• As for the accumulated 2023, (January-October) the set of transport modes together exceed with 135 million validations those of the same period of the year 2022 and are close to 2% above the 2019 demand.

• About half of the trips made every day on public transport in the Barcelona area are made with T-mobilitat, which means one and a half million validations each day. 
   

Barcelona, November 23, 2023.- The Autoritat del Transport Metropolità has set a new record for public transport trips in the Barcelona area in the last twelve months, since November 2022. The number of validations reaches 1,064.54 million and therefore exceeds the last peak of trips made between March 2019 and February 2020 when 1,060.92 million were counted. 

The graph below shows the accumulated demand for the public transport system in the last 12 months, month by month, expressed in millions of trips. Thus, during 2023, a sustained recovery is also observed in the interannual period, making a new historical high also predicted at the end of this 2023.  
 

The objective of recovering pre-pandemic demand, which expected to match its figures before the end of 2023, is therefore exceeded. In this way, the current efforts of the administrations are focused on improving the supply of public transport and its efficiency.

Record accumulated up to October 2023

Regarding the first ten months of 2023, the registered demand for public transport in the Barcelona area exceeds 895 million trips and is 18% more than last year (136.3 million more validations). Although last year October accumulated 13.5% less demand compared to the pre-pandemic period, this year, in these first ten months of 2023, public transport is in nearly 2% above demand compared to 2019. 
 

T-mobilitat exceeds a million and a half journeys a day

T-mobilitat contactless and rechargeable validation system exceeds one and a half million trips per day, so its implementation exceeds 50% of the total validations of integrated titles of the Barcelona ATM (Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Barcelona Area).

Since March, the T-jove has only been available in T-mobilitat format, which means that about 100% of its users now travel with the new validation system.

As for the million T-mobilitat cards issued so far, more than 70% are in physical format and the remaining 30% are in their mobile version.

At present, practically the entire range of integrated passes of the Barcelona ATM can be used with the new contactless system. All that remains is the integration of the T-usual for the unemployed, the T-verda and the T-dia, which will do so in the coming months.
