  • For the second year running, ATM decides not to raise its fares, so helping many people and families to cope with the negative impact of the pandemic.
  • The range of passes will also remain the same as in 2021, so that passes purchased in the last year will be valid until 31st December 2022.
  • The Spanish cabinet approves a contribution of 40 million euros to ATM to boost the financing of public transport.

Barcelona, 22nd December 2021.- The board of the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (Metropolitan Transport Authority – ATM) decided this Wednesday 22nd December to keep the same fares on public transport in 2022. Like this, for the second year running, fares will not change, so helping many people and families to cope with the negative impact of the pandemic. It has also opted not to change its range of passes, which will remain the same as in 2021.

Since the start of the pandemic, public transport has adapted to PROCICAT requirements at all times, while keeping up a service to assure public mobility in safe conditions. However, overall demand on the public transport network was back up to 82% of pre-pandemic levels by November 2021. In this respect, in 2022 ATM expects levels of mobility on public transport to return to what they were before covid-19.

With regard to finance, the approval of 40 million euros of assistance to ATM represents a considerable improvement in the financing of public transport, which was hard-hit during the pandemic and now faces big challenges, including: reinforcing, updating and decarbonising the bus fleet to help cut down on private traffic, reinforcing and modernising the metro service and computerising transport, among others.

Holding fares steady allows the validity of passes purchased in 2021 to be extended, and now they will not expire until 31st December 2022. In the case of the T-verda, T-16 and T-compensació covid passes, these will keep the expiry date belonging to each pass.
